Pond Idyll

Dragonflies break
the skin of stillness
disrupting inertia.

Tadpoles drop tails,
clamber on rocks
lungs screaming
for the place
where the sky
meets water.

A moving miasma,
mosquitos and midges
flee diaphanous wings.

Green lotus leaves
ride rippled shadows,
frogs whistle to the sun,
a water rat sparkles
feasting on pollywogs
and tales left behind.

  1. How lucidly you draw prose pictur & that too so perfect!!! I can hear the dragonflies and actually see the tadpoles. Wow, you surely have many tales left behind!!!

  2. I love the descriptions of this scene … I didn’t know what an Idyll was till I googled it … this is a perfect example!

    Dragonflies break
    the skin of stillness
    disrupting inertia.

is my favourite image… but i LOVE this whole piece πŸ™‚

  3. Damn, Marousia….you put me right there with your words. bugs and all.

All the imagery work for a complete picture, and there isn’t a word that is misplaced.

Magic of the best kind to me!
